Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has a terror shield — his ministry is contemplating a ban on visitors on railway platforms.

Airports across the country have already banned visitors inside the terminal buildings from July 14 to August 20, in the aftermath of the July 11 Mumbai serial blasts.

The railway minister said, “We are thinking of banning visitors, who come to see-off their near and dear ones, from going inside trains and even on platforms. By just purchasing a Rs 3 ticket, they can place ‘objectionable’ objects in the trains.”

“Jisko tata, bye-bye karna hai bahar se karega aur jayega (Those who want to see-off will do so from outside and scoot ),” he said, adding that, “Passengers’ safety and security is the railway’s foremost concern.”
