THE SELECTION trials for the Mc Dowells Signature Club Golf Championship were held at the Sudarshan Chakra Environment Park and Training Area in Sultania Infantry Lines on Sunday.
The tournament was divided into four categories based on the players’ handicaps. In the 0 to 12 handicap category, the father-son duo of JS Kalra and KS Kalra finished second and first respectively.
Colonel Kamal Maini was adjudged the winner in the 13 to 16 handicap category, while Lieutenant Colonel ML Sharma finished second. In the 17 to 24 handicap category, Lieutenant Colonel Raj Singh was declared the winner while group captain A Verma was the runner-up.
In the category-wise prizes, Colonel Kamal Maini won the Mc Dowells Nearest to the Pin while Lieutenant Colonel AK Parsai won the Outlook Business Magazine Nearest to the Pin. Omar F Ali bagged the Kingfisher Airlines Longest Drive prize.
The winners of the Bhopal round will proceed to play the next round in Mumbai. This is the fifth edition of the tournament that will be played all over the country from September 30 to December 3. Golfers from 30 clubs spread over 21 cities in the country are participating in the tournament.
In the women’s category, Rekha Persai stood first. The finals of the tournament will be held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 3. The prize distribution for the Bhopal round was held at DSOI later in the evening.
