Hamirpur deputy commissioner Ashish Singhmar on Saturday asked people to take active co-operation from the administration while dealing with earthquake-like situations. He said nothing could be achieved without joint efforts.

Addressing a seminar on "How to deal with earthquakes" organised by the Rotary Club and its allied organisation, he said since Hamirpur district fell in seismic zone 5, there were all the more chances of an earthquake in the district and as such all should remain prepared to deal with the situation.

He said the earthquake in 1905 in Kangra region had claimed many lives and caused widespread damage to both government and private property. Singhmar said there was a need to have shock-proof houses.
