The first phase of Shiv Sena's civic poll campaign delays as party Chief Bal Thackeray's meeting with Sena rank and file scheduled for Friday was postponed by the party.
A release issued by the party secretary Anil Desai said, "The scheduled meet of Thackeray senior has been temporally postponed and new date of the meeting would be announced soon."
After announcement of elections for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and other civic bodies in the state, Sena in order to start its poll campaign had organised Thackeray senior's meeting at Rangashardha on Friday with party leaders, deputy leaders, Vibhag Pramukhs and other officer bearers.
A senior party leader on condition of anonymity said; "The next date for meeting would soon be fixed and it would not be a closed door meeting but a massive public rally." He further added that the meeting would be held after the X'mas.
The Sena that is now facing one of the biggest challenges in the history as it suffered two splits by Narayan Rane and Raj Thackeray is now making every attempt and possible trick to garner the vote. As a part of this trick party patriarch Thackeray senior in his rally would inaugurate the audio-video cassette prepared by Marathi-Hindi remix singer Avadhoot Gupte for Sena's civic poll camping-the tested formula of the party which had successfully worked in 1990 and 1995 Assembly elections and 1996 and 1998 Lok Sabha polls.
Meanhwile, Shiv Sena's corporator Jyoti Andhari, from Andheri (Wrad No. 76) resigned from party to join Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)-the party that has been floated by Raj, the rebel nephew of Thackeray senior.
Interestingly, the traditional Dussera rally of party that was scheduled on October 2 at Shivaji Park was also postponed due to heavy torrential rains and still not taken place even after two months. The last time Thackeray senior made his public appearance was on July 27-the birthday of his son and party Executive President Uddhav and for the inauguration of renovated party headquarters Shiv Sena Bhavan.
