A Shiv Sena worker was arrested for allegedly assaulting a Vile Parle shopkeeper’s employee, who refused to supply free vada pavs for a cricket tournament organised by the party.
The police said the accused Sunil Mahadik slapped the employee after a fight on Sunday.
“We have arrested the accused for causing hurt and trespassing,” said an officer from the Juhu police station, on condition of anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the media.
The incident turned out to be another embarrassment for the Sena after the Thane incident where a shakha pramukh assaulted a woman traffic police constable for objecting to him talking on his mobile phone while driving his vehicle. In both cases, Sena workers were caught on CCTV while resorting to violence.
On Monday, the Sena promptly sacked Mahadik, who is a member of the party’s youth wing Yuva Sena. According to reports, Sunil Mahadik, a member of the Yuva Sena, attacked one Chetan Patel, employee of Trupti Farsan Mart, in Vile Parle.
This came after Patel apparently refused to pay heed to Mahadik’s demand to supply 100 vada pavs free of the cost to Mahadik for a cricket tournament happening in t he locality.
Meanwhile, activists of Swab him an outfit led by Congress MLA Nitesh Rane on Tuesday staged protest against the Sena by distributing free vada pavs in Dadar.
“It is shameful for the Sena to beg shopkeepers to give snacks at their tournaments,” said Rane.
