Senior hockey probables' list pruned to 33

Hockey India selection committee has decided to prune the list of core group men probables from 48 players to 33 during the three-day selection trials which concluded at the SAI Centre in Patiala on Sunday.

The selectors will shortly announce the squad of 18 for the Lanco International Super Series (Nov 22-25), Champions Trophy (Dec 1-9) and Asian Champions Trophy (Dec 20-27).

Kolkata: A first-half goal from Nigerian striker Edeh Chidi was enough to give East Bengal a narrow 1-0 victory over Pune FC in their first home match of this I-League. The red-and-gold brigade were outplayed in the second half and could only hold on because of some poor finishing from Pune FC, who suffered their first defeat of the season.

New Delhi: Vijender Singh said the pulling out of India Fighters from the World Series of Boxing (WSB) is a huge setback for the Indian boxers: "I feel they shouldn't have pulled out. These leagues are good for the sport's growth."
