Senior leader of the ruling National Conference and Deputy Advocate General of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Mustafa Bhat died here on Tuesday after prolonged illness. He was 50.
Bhat, who had also served as the Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), breathed his last at SKIMS hospital in Soura where he was admitted for the last two months after undergoing surgery for a tumour of spinal cord at a Delhi hospital, family sources said.
He was elected as Mayor of SMC following the landmark civic body elections in the state held in 2005 after a gap of about 27 years.
A lawyer by profession, Bhat remained Mayor of SMC for two years and was appointed as the deputy Advocate General by the state government last year.
