A senior police officer was today found dead inside his official residence here, police said.
Director Prosecution Tashi Rigzin, whose rank was equivalent to a Deputy Inspector General of Police, was found dead, by his driver this morning, when he had gone to pick him up for work, they said.
Rigzin had apparently suffered a heart attack and could not get any help as he was living alone here.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condoled the demise of Rigzin and expressed sympathy for the bereaved family.
Omar prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul, an official spokesman said.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has made available a state helicopter for taking Rigzin's body to his native village in Leh district.
Director General of Police K Rajendra, while condoling the demise of the officer, has deputed IGP (Personnel) to accompany the mortal remains of Rigzin and represent the department during his final rites, a police spokesman said.
