The Crime Branch of city police late on Thursday claimed to have arrested four more people allegedly involved in the July 26 serial blasts, which left 57 people dead.
“We have arrested four SIMI men who were involved in the blasts,” Joint Commissioner of Police of Crime Branch Ashish Bhatia, who is investigating the case, said.
The police said it arrested Javed Ahmed, Naved Kadri and Aiyaz Saiyad from Ahmedabad, while Abbas Sameja was picked up from Bhuj in Kutch district.
Police sources said the names of these four have come up during the interrogation of the ten accused arrested earlier last month.
Abbas Sameja, who works as instructor in a private health club, was allegedly involved in partly financing the terror plan by selling off a house, which belonged to a SIMI member in Bhuj. He was involved with the banned SIMI from 2001 and had “attended the Halol terror training camp organised by the banned outfit in January 2008 under a fake name”.
According to the police, Javed Ahmed had allegedly procured the LPG cylinder used in the Civil Hospital blast and Naved Kadri attended the meeting in which the serial blast was planned in the presence of prime accused Abu Bashar and others.
Aiyaz Saiyad, police said, is believed to have planted the bombs in several parts of Ahmedabad.
