A year after serial blasts claimed 57 lives in Ahmedabad, key conspirators still elude the police while those arrested are awaiting trial.

According to crime branch, 54 persons have been arrested in connection with the serial blasts, while over 35 including the master minds behind the attacks like alias Tauqueer, are Amir Raja Khan, Riyaz Bhatkal and his brother Iqbal and Abdus Subhan still absconding.

Chargesheets filed by the crime branch in 20 cases registered in connection with the blasts, state that Bhatkal brothers on the directions of Amir Raza Khan were responsible for serial blasts in the city on July 26 last year.

Raza Khan, a member of terror outfit HuJI, belongs to Kolkata and is at present in Karachi, while Bhatkal is the founder member of Indian Mujahideen (IM), formed after SIMI was banned by the government, the chargesheets alleged.

Bhatkal brothers had connived with SIMI leaders to hatch a conspiracy and trained local people, it states.

Those arrested include 18 persons from Gujarat while rest are from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
