Bhaderwah principal district and session judge MK Sharma on Thursday has granted bail to encounter specialist Shiv Krishan Sharma and seven others facing trail under the Arms Act at Thatri police station in Doda district here.
According to reports, the court has ordered that the accused could be released against a security amount of Rs.1 lakh each.
Encounter specialist Sharma had been charged for his alleged links with five militants arrested by the Doda police on May 23, 2013 and involvement in grenade attack on Thathri police station, besides an attempt to review militancy in the area.
The witnesses, who turned hostile in the court, had put the blame on the investigation officer and senior officers for allegedly framing the encounter specialist and his personal security officer in a "false" case.
Sharma had joined the police force as an assistant sub inspector in 1999 and was subsequently promoted as sub inspector in 2005. He has been awarded police president medal for gallantry in 2011 and has also been awarded police president medal in 2008, Sher-e-Kashmir police medal (twice), DG Medal, Parahakrama Padakh, and GOC in Command medal (twice) for his active role in counter insurgency operations for the last decade.
