Seven members of the dreaded Sattan Chaudhary gang were killed in an encounter with police in Bihar's Khagaria district, police said on Friday.
Superintendent of Police Vineet Vinayak said seven member of the gang including its leader Sattan Chaudhary were killed in an encounter near Dhamara close to the border with Saharsa district.
Several hundreds of rounds of fire were exchanged during the encounter that lasted about nine hours beginning around midnight.
Two rifles looted from the police, four regular rifles of .315 bore, two country-made pistols and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain criminals.
The gang was involved in several cases of murder, attack on police, dacoities and extortion.
Police raided their hideout on a tip-off that the gang were planning a crime.
