SEVEN PLAYERS of the Gwalior Women Hockey Academy have been selected for the national camp. The Academy was inaugurated in May this year.
According to the Sports Department’s press release, those selected are Chanu (goalkeeper), Lal Singh (right back), Pinki (left back), Sushila (right half), Mizone (left half), Jamila (centre forward) and Aruna (right back).
The Academy team recently participated in the national meet held in New Delhi. It won the Fairplay Trophy and Best Penalty Corner Conversion Award.
The team scored 73 goals in the State-level tournament without conceding a single goal. “It is an overwhelming response from the players for they have proved themselves in just three months,” Sports Director Sanjay Chaudhary said. Sports Minister Yashodhararaje Scindia, Principal Secretary Ranjana Chaudhary and Joint Director Dr Vinod Pradhan congratulated the players on their performance.
