Seven suicides, most over family matters

Seven persons committed suicide in the Capital in the last 24 hours. While four cases were reported from east Delhi, two persons committed suicide in west Delhi.

In the first case, 21-year-old Amar Singh, residing in Anand Vihar area, was found hanging from the ceiling of his  house in the early hours of Monday. Singh, survived by his wife and one-year-old son, left a suicide note blaming his neighbour, Naresh, for his death. Police have registered a case and are carrying out investigations. Singh worked in a gutka company.

In the second incident, 15-year-old Poonam Roy, residing in Karkardooma Village, was found hanging in her house on Monday morning. Her father, Naveen, and mother weren’t at home when the incident took place. Poonam’s brother died around four months back. She left a suicide note in which she wrote that no one should be held responsible for her death.

In the third case, a 50-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in a park in Geeta Colony area around 7.30 a.m. on Monday. The deceased, identified as Charanjeet, worked as a auto driver. He was suffering from TB and was an alcoholic, the police said. Charanjeet had left home after a fight with his wife on Sunday night.

In the fourth incident, Arjun, 18, committed suicide by hanging himself in his house in Anand Vihar. Arjun, the police said, worked as a caretaker at the house of an income tax officer of Chhattisgarh. No suicide note was recovered from the house.

A 22-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping from her first floor flat in the Khayala area in Uttam Nagar, west Delhi, on Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Guddi, was married to Sanjay for the last six years. They had a two-year-old daughter. Guddi wanted to live separately from her in-laws and there were regular fights over this issue. On Sunday, she again fought with her husband and then jumped from the house. She was declared brought dead at a nearby hospital.

In another case reported from Uttam Nagar, Arun, 25, committed suicide after a fight with his wife on Sunday. Arun, the police said, drank some poisonous liquid and died at Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital.

In the third case, reported from Adarsh Nagar area of north-west Delhi, one Anupam committed suicide after a fight with his wife.
