Several countries consider Singh a weak PM: Jaitley

india Updated: Apr 07, 2009 21:13 IST

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said that several countries consider Manmohan Singh a 'weak' prime minister.

"Several countries in the world consider Manmohan Singh to be a weak prime minister," he said.

To substantiate his claim, Jaitely quoted from the weekly newspaper, 'The Economist', which termed Manmohan Singh, "A PM in office but not in power."

Addressing a press conference in Varanasi on Tuesday, Jaitley ridiculed Sonia Gandhi's statement that 'disrespecting the PM of the country amounted to disrespecting the entire country'.

"If our PM is devoid of the real Prime Ministerial powers and the same is being exercised by someone else, then the people of the country should know about it," he added.

Pointing out the "weaknesses" of the present UPA government, he said, "on the important issue of terrorism we are living in a state of denial and so we are unable to deliver anything concrete against the growing terrorism in the country."
