The police took a week to take action in the case. Residents of the village had threatened to launch an agitation, if the police failed to take any action.

Meanwhile, the department of elementary education has also started a departmental inquiry into the case, which will be conducted by the block primary education officer (BPEO), Nahan.

Accused teacher Naresh Poswal would have to face deemed suspension if he remained in police custody for 48 hours, said deputy director (elementary) KS Negi.

He said that the school management committee might terminate accused cook Meena Devi. He added that the BPEO would submit the report to him and the director would be apprised with the findings of the report.

A meeting was called on the school campus on Sunday for chalking out the future strategy, in which a large number of women had taken part.

The administration of the school situated in the Palyion panchayat located on the Haryana border came under scanner over the alleged involvement of the school teachers in a sex racket on June 27 when a deputation of the villagers led by president of school management committee Bhushan Kumar had submitted a complaint to the SP with an audio CD.

The inquiry officer and the ASP had asked the complainants to file additional information pertaining to the case. The villagers said required information was provided on Saturday after which the case was lodged.

ASP Bhagat Singh Thakur said the teacher and the cook have been arrested. He did not rule out the possibilities of addition of more sections in the case. Meanwhile, assistant district attorney Sanjay Pandit said both the accused have been sent to police remand till July 8.
