Police lodged an FIR against the dean of Sharda University in Greater Noida on Friday after a law professor of the same institution accused him of sending her obscene messages since February.
The professor reported the matter a few months back to the university’s chairman, who forwarded it to the crime-against-women committee of the institute, police said. But even after the complaint, the messages continued, alleged the victim.
The victim — a resident of Ghaziabad — also said the accused had threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
The university, however, appeared to dismiss the incident as trivial. “This is a case of a tiff between two faculty members.
The crime-against-women committee is already looking into the matter and is yet to submit its report. If it finds anyone guilty, serious action will be taken,” said PK Gupta, chairman of the Sharda group of institutions.
The victim reported the matter to university officials after receiving the first indecent message six months back, said Brijesh Kumar Singh, superintendent of police (rural).
The volley of messages, however, continued for the next few months, forcing the professor to meet the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate and senior superintendent of police a few days back.
After the meeting, the police took action against the accused. “We have formed a team to examine the allegations. Once the charges are proven, we will arrest the accused,” Singh added.
