A Shariat court in Bijnor will decide on August 24 the case of a Muslim woman who allegedly remarried without getting divorce from her first husband.

The woman, identified as Rubi, married Sakhawat Husain at Bhagijot village on August 11.

Some Muslim clerics ruled the marriage was illegal because she had not got a divorce from her first husband.

The matter was taken to the Shariat court at Nagina town in Bijnor, which has summoned the parties concerned to appear for a hearing on Thursday.

Mufti Mohd Uvais, who will head the court, said it was a serious issue and the case would be decided after considering all evidence.
