It was an elevation in ranks for former Ministers of State Anand Sharma and B K Handique, who were sworn in as Union Cabinet ministers on Friday.
While Sharma was Minister of State for External Affairs with independent charge of Information and Broadcasting, Handique was MoS Parliamentary Affairs.
Sharma had been given additional charge of the I & B Ministry after Union Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi fell sick.
C P Joshi, Mamta Banerjee, S M Krishna, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Verappa Moily are fresh faces that were not there in the earlier Cabinet.
The rest of the ministers all retain their Cabinet ranks.
