Director Rajshree Ojha, of Aisha (2010) fame, is set to pair up veteran actors Sharmila Tagore and Soumitra Chatterjee, in her upcoming Bengali film, Chhayanat (In The Shadow). The yesteryear Bollywood diva and the Bengali star were last seen together in Abar Aranye (In The Forest…Again), which was directed by Goutam Ghosh, nine years ago.
“The idea is mine but Bengali journalist-author Shankarlal Bhattacharya helped me develop it into a story. When I approached Sharmila and Soumitra, they happily agreed to do the movie,” says Rajshree.
Chhayanat deals with a family embroiled in a murder mystery. “The film is on the same lines of a typical French thriller involving a murder that causes conflicts in a happy household,” she says.
Rajshree admits she has had a tough time finding a producer for the film. “But we are close to finalising the producer now. Once he or she comes on board, everything else will fall into place in no time,” she says.
Ask her about the out-of-the-box title and she explains, “Chhayanat is a raga that’s played during dusk. Talking of the characters, neither of them is black or white. They show who they are and who they want to be.”
The film also has two other lead characters. And Rajshree is planning to rope in a Bollywood actor for one of the roles. “There are four main characters. For one of the parts, I am already in talks with a Bollywood actor. The other character will be played by a Bengali star for sure,” says the director, who plans to start shooting for the film in the second half of the year.
Rajshree says, “I think August is the perfect time to start shooting for the movie since I want to film Durga Puja in Bengal for my film.”
