Ex-PM’s pet: The Rs 34.75-crore hi-tech Scientific Convention Centre at the KGMU was Vajpayee's dream baby. He mooted it on October 22, 2001 and nurtured it too .

Grand opening: Vajpayee inaugurated the Rs 21.26 crore first phase of the venture on December 19, 2004, in the presence of Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Seizure: The Rs 13.49-crore second phase of the convention centre is yet to take off because of a funds crunch.

Saving grace: A host of Members of Parliament like Rajnath Singh, Kalraj Mishra, Dinanath Mishra, Balbir Punj, etc, besides BJP legislators, had pitched in initially, offering financial support to the prestigious project from their respective Member of Parliament Local Area Development Fund.
