A few emails sent by former co-founder of INX Media Indrani Mukerjea before and after she allegedly murdered her daughter Sheena Bora in April 2012 will be used as evidence against her, police sources said. The police are relying heavily on digital evidence to try and establish the conspiracy, said sources.
Investigators claimed an ‘important’ email sent by Indrani on March 8, 2012, weeks before the murder (April 24, 2012) supposedly to her former husband Sanjeev Khanna, has led them to believe the murder was planned.
Police sources said apart from the March email, two other emails sent on May 4, 2012, and August 7, 2012, have been recovered by the police.
Investigators said the email before the murder was sent from Indrani’s account, while the two sent after the murder were from a fake ID she created using Sheena’s name. Investigators found the emails sent from Sheena’s fake account originated from the UK, where Indrani and her husband Peter were living.
According to Peter’s statement, he had confronted Indrani about Sheena’s disappearance after his son Rahul told him she was missing and was last picked up by her mother for dinner. This led to fights between Peter and Indrani, his statement said.
However, Peter told the police things normalised after he and his stepchildren Vidhie and Mikhail began receiving emails from Sheena. The police have also seized Khanna’s laptop as well as two laptops and two mobile phones from Indrani’s home.
The police are also focusing on the mobile phone records dating back to 2012, to establish if there was contact between Indrani, Khanna and her driver Shyamwar Rai. The police have been able to trace their phone location on April 23 and 25 to Raigad, sources said. On April 23, Indrani and Rai allegedly recced the Raigad spot where they burnt Sheena’s body on April 25.
