For the first time since the murder of Sheena Bora surfaced on August 25 with the arrest of INX Media co-founder Indrani Mukerjea, the wife of former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea, Hindustan Times has learnt the entire sequence of events that transpired three years ago on April 24 and 25, when Sheena was murdered, her body burnt and dumped in Raigad, 120km south of Mumbai.

HT, which accessed the first information report (FIR) filed at the Khar police station, has learnt that Sheena was dropped off near National College on Linking Road in Bandra (West) by her fiancé Rahul Mukerjea, Peter’s son, from his first marriage, around 7pm on April 24, 2012.

Sheena, who was reluctant to meet her mother, Indrani, agreed to the meeting after Indrani extended an offer to have dinner together. After the time and place was fixed for Sheena to be picked up, Indrani and her driver, Shyamwar Rai, drove in a rented Opel Corsa to Hotel Hilltop at Worli, where her former husband, Sanjeev Khanna, was staying, around 6pm.

Indrani, after conducting reconnaissance in Raigad district, had returned to Mumbai on April 23, 2012, and booked a room for Khanna at the hotel.

After picking up Khanna, the three accused reached National College around 6.45pm, and waited till Sheena arrived. Indrani had carefully chosen a crowded spot on Linking Road, which has numerous roadside shops, fast food joints, hip pubs and restaurants, to avoid any suspicion.

When Sheena arrived around 7pm, she got into the car and sat in the rear seat with Khanna. Indrani, who was sitting in the front seat next to Rai, instructed him to drive into one of the deserted by-lanes near National College.

Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria confirmed, “Sheena was taken in to one of the by-lanes near National College. And it was here that Khanna strangulated Sheena inside the car.”

The three accused made sure they got away from the hustle and bustle of Linking Road, and found a dark and deserted place in the by-lanes to execute the murder, police officials said.

Once Sheena was strangulated, the three accused drove back to the Mukerjeas’ bungalow, Marlow, at Pochkhanwala Road in Worli, where the body was put in a bag and stuffed in the boot of the car.

While Khanna went back to Hilltop Hotel, Indrani went inside the house. Rai slept inside the car with the body in the boot.

Around 11.30pm, Indrani made a call to Khanna – the contents of which are being verified by investigators through cross-questioning.

Between 1.30am and 2am of April 25, 2012, Indrani, Khanna and Rai got into the car and left Worli for Gagode village in Pen tehsil of Raigad district.

Around 4am, after identifying an isolated spot on the Raigad highway near the village, Sheena’s body was dragged out of the boot by the three accused and taken into a thickly forested area. The accused then poured petrol over the bag in which Sheena’s body was kept, and burned it. Soon after, all the three accused returned to Mumbai, and Khanna left for Kolkata on the same day.
