A Mumbai magistrate on Monday extended the police custody of Indrani Mukherjea and two other prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case till September 5.

Mumbai police have expressed frustration at the alleged lack of cooperation by Indrani, and the reported claims and counter-claims by her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna.

While Indrani has stood firm and not admitted any role in the crime, Khanna admitted to his complicity within hours of the police being granted his custody last week.

Here is what the police have done so far as part of their investigation into the murder:

*The police visited the places from where Indrani allegedly purchased various items used in the crime and recorded statements of witnesses.

*Recorded evidence at places from where the accused people purchased petrol and other things to dispose of Sheena's body.

*Obtained various documents that could help reconstruct the crime. These included the resignation of Sheena from the place of her employment. They also recovered her passport from Rahul Mukerjea's house in Dehradun. They also collected documents from Pen.

*Dug out remains of Sheena from Pen in presence of a tehsildar and forwarded the same for forensic examination.

*Recovered a bag meant to be used to dispose of body of Mikhail Bora. The accused allegedly planned to kill him, too, but the plan didn't work out.

Here is what the police are still to do in the case:

*The police are trying to find out the motive of the crime.

*To find out why the accused chose the place in Pen tehsil for disposing of the body and who else was involved in the process.

*To find out if any more people are involved in the crime and, if so, to track down and arrest them.

*To interrogate accused persons about the belongings of the deceased. These include her mobile phone and items on her person. They haven't been able to recover these items.

*To find out exactly which motor vehicle was used by the accused persons for committing the offence.

*To find out documentary evidence related to the financial transactions of the accused persons.

*To find out persons closely associated to the accused and quiz them.

*To search the offices of those arrested.

*To ascertain if the accused used the internet/Skype to hatch the murder plan.
