Forgetting past conflicts, Shia and Sunni sects of the Muslim community joined together on Eid, for the first time, to offer namaz at Aishbagh Eidgah in Lucknow on Thursday, an official spokesman said.

The Namaz was offered together on the initiative of Shia cleric Kalbe Sadiq to end conflicts between Shia-Sunni communities, the public relations officer of the state police headquarters said.

The city had witnessed a number of clashes between both the sects in the past, but this time they agreed to offer namaz together, he said.

Governor TV Rajeswar and Chief Minister Mayawati greeted people on the occasion.

Eid observers in the other parts of the city observed the day amid tight security arrangements in view of the recent blasts in Delhi and Ahmedabad.
