DESPITE THE fact that the Ministry of Human Resource Development has sanctioned money for construction of 30 primary, 40 upper primary and 1200 additional schools under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan in Lucknow district, the construction work has not begun yet.

Month of October is nearing completion yet the officials are not pursuing the same with the village education committee.

In a bid to promote elementary education in the State, MHRD has sanctioned Rs 3.89 lakh for construction of each primary school, Rs 5.08 lakh for each upper primary school and Rs 1.4 lakh for each additional class. The money was sanctioned this summer and was released thereafter. Sources said money has been sent to Village Education Committee for utilisation.

It was resolved to make all these new construction completely earthquake-resistant keeping in mind the safety of the school children.

No sooner the state education department got the money from the Central government, it started training programme for the teachers and other officials who would supervise the construction work. But there has been no breakthrough as the work hasn’t started yet.

When contacted BSA Mukesh says: “The training work continued for quite some time and hence the delay.” Murder of Sravasti BSA also adversely hit the work as the officials of the education department went on strike for few days.

However, the officials reiterated that they would now expedite the work.

Many fears that if the education department fails to utilise the sanctioned money within this financial year, MHRD may snatch the unutilized money back from government. But the officials refused to speak on this issue.
