Khasi dances, banana flower recipes, carols by former drug addicts and much more - the capital reverberated to music of Meghalaya as a four-day Shillong Christmas Festival got underway here Friday evening.

Performers, artists and chefs have come all the way from the northeastern state to the Ashok Hotel here to showcase the state's rich craft and culture.

Red rice, fried mustard leaves, Birds eye chillies, highland tea and of course, drinks are all there to help one's taste buds.

Besides the traditional Khasi dances, the festival ground features live demonstrations of manufacturing handicraft products and an exhibition of cane materials and traditional spices.

Inaugurating the festival, Tourism Secretary A.K. Mishra said that the festival aims at giving exposure to the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya and learn from them as well.

Saihungland, one of the organisers of the festival, said that besides cultural exchanges they would love to arrange tours for interested Delhiites to their state.
