Delhiites will get an opportunity this season to celebrate Christmas the Shillong way!
A four-day Shillong Christmas Festival is being organised at the Lilly Ponds lawns of Hotel Ashok at Chanakyapuri in the city during December 22-25.
Besides showcasing the art and cultural forms of Meghalaya, the festival, from 11 am to 10 pm, will offer a chance to the visitors to taste the simple indigenous "khasi" cuisine of the state at a price of Rs 550.
"The food menu will encompass all local cuisines of Meghalaya. The cuisines are not spicy as they use only pepper, ginger, turmeric and bay leaf," Hotel Ashok's General Manager Vinod Sharma said here today.
Carol singing by "Vibrance," a group of recovering drug addicts, will provide special ambience to the festival.
The "Jeebon Roy Creative Arts Akademi," an organisation committed to the preservation of cultural dances among the tribes of Meghalaya, will put up a performance of "ka shad mastieh," the traditional dances of thanksgivig celebrated during the harvest season, the "ka shad rep," a community dance during the sowing season, and "ka shad thma", a dance performance before the men leave for war and the women seeking divine blessing for their return with victory.
He said handicraft items from textiles to cane work, spices and condiments, highland tea and honey from Cherrapunjee would be available at the festival.
Mr Sharma said the food and cultural festival of other North Eastern States would be organised at the hotel, in the event of the Meghalaya festival becoming a success.
