They will not make her a dame of the British Empire or a baroness, but Shilpa Shetty is set to meet Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Tony Blair.
These are among a few invitations — including an invite to the House of Commons and royal reception — that crowd the Bollywood star’s event diary after her high-profile “Big Brother” victory.
“It is a huge honour. I am humbled,” she said. She will meet the Queen at a gala in London to celebrate the Commonwealth Day on March 12, and she will be meeting Tony Blair at the House of Commons next Wednesday.
She has Jade Goody to thank for her fortune. The racist jibes the Shilpa’s British housemate made at her whipped up a sympathy wave that she rode to clinch the deal. Britain was determined to prove that it was a rainbow nation.
Shilpa is pragmatic about marriage. “If a guy wants to take me out, he has to seek my father’s permission. That’s the way it works. I secretly brief them on how to field my father’s posers before they face him. But that hasn’t stopped dad vetoing a good few. I try not to mind when that happens because parents are right in the long run.”
