Shilpa's debut musical to hit Berlin on September 29

Choreographed by Ganesh Hegde, Miss Bollywood will begin its run in Berlin and will have a two-month long tour of Germany, Holland and the UK.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty's debut musical, Miss Bollywood, will hit Berlin on September 29, bringing the European audience closer to the grandeur, opulence and true essence of the world's largest film industry.

"I am very excited and happy that I have been given this opportunity," a beaming Shilpa Shetty, winner of the Celebrity Big Brother show here earlier this year told PTI today.

"I am extremely proud of doing this musical. Whatever I do, I should be able to justify and hope people enjoy it," she said.

The 32-year-old Mangalore-born Shilpa Shetty, who has acted in over 50 films including box office hits like Baazigar, Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Dhadkan, said so far all musicals connected with Bollywood including Bombay Dreams figured actors from outside Bollywood and "this is the first time a Bollywood actress performs in a Bollywood musical that caters to international audience."<b1>

"For India, Bollywood is not new, but for Western market it is," she said, adding that the musical will have a two-month long tour of Germany, Holland and the UK. She will perform at the famous Royal Albert Hall in London on December 12.

Asked why the musical, produced by Farhath Hussain, is first launched in Berlin, she said "We got the suitable venue in Berlin at that time. Besides, Germany is very proud and supportive of Indian dance and music."

Known for her dancing abilities in the realm of Bollywood films, Shilpa is poised to set the stage alight with her musical extravaganza that has never been brought to the international stage before.

Asked about her future projects, the actress said she has started her own production house -- S2 Production -- which is coming out with a DVD on Yoga to be released in December this year.

"I will be starting my next Bollywood movie in January," she said. Sunny Deol will be directing it, after his successful maiden venture,

Miss Bollywood follows the story of Maya, performed by Shilpa Shetty, a young, classical-trained choreographer who finds herself thrust into the limelight where she must sink or swim. Her tribulations include the unwanted attentions of a famous but predatory choreographer and a jealous diva.

Miss Bollywood is a concoction of riveting dance sequences, showcasing a combination of eclectic dance forms taken from the east and west of India, absorbed and transformed into the phenomenon known as "Bollywood dance", with Shilpa Shetty recapturing on stage some of the Indian film industry's greatest hits.<b2>

The musical is devised by well-known choreographer Ganesh Hegde, whose previous credits include working with Michael Jackson and Shahrukh Khan, and produced under the direction of Morani Brothers and Soorma and Michael E Ward.

The costumes have been designed by leading Indian fashion designer Neeta Lulla, whose credits include dressing Bollywood artists Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen and costumes for the award-winning film Devdas.

Miss Bollywood opens its European tour at Admiralspalast in Berlin on September 29 and commences the UK tour at the Opera House in Manchester on November 3.
