Actress Shilpa Shetty may be taking the Rajasthan Royal’s losses in the ongoing IPL sportingly, but Delhi Daredevils’ captain, Gautam Gambhir, referring to her team as an “ordinary” side, hasn’t gone down well with the Bollywood babe.
“I think Rajasthan was never a threat. Except for Yusuf Pathan, the other guys were pretty ordinary,” was what Gambhir, popularly known as Gauti, had said after Delhi drubbed the Rajasthan team on Wednesday. The Rajasthan team co-owner reacted sharply on Twitter, “I heard Gambhir called RR an ordinary team! V are a team with extraordinary talent… 2008 IPL champions NOT so ORDINARY afterall.”
Think before you speak
Apart from Shilpa, others too have taken offence to Gambhir’s remarks. While actress Sameera Reddy, who attended the Delhi-Rajasthan match in Delhi, echoed Shilpa’s words by retweeting, Mandira Bedi wrote back, “I’m a bit offended that Gambhir called Rajasthan Royals an ordinary side. That statement may come back later to bite him, don’t u think?”
Not so cool
Gambhir’s fans, too, aren’t pleased with the cricketer’s over-confidence. “It’s nice that Gautam is doing well, but he shouldn’t have demeaned anyone,” posted Anamus on Twitter. “RR had beaten DD by 105 runs in 2008 semis! Who was ordinary then?” read a post from Rajat Singh on the Rajasthan team’s Twitter page. Despite repeated attempts, Gambhir was unavailable for comment.
