Actor Shiney Ahuja, arrested for allegedly raping the 20-year-old maid who worked in his house, will have to stay inside Arthur Road jail, with the fast track court refusing to release him on bail.

The trial court rejected Ahuja’s application seeking bail after the prosecution said his release could pose a threat to the victim’s life. This is the second bail plea by Ahuja to be rejected by the court.

Ahuja (36) had filed a bail application in the fast track court on September 5, saying the chargesheet in the case has already been filed, and that the police investigation is complete.

His application also said he would not tamper with the evidence and that would present himself before the police whenever needed.

Public prosecutor Rajendra Tajne told the court that the Oshiwara police, in reply to Ahuja’s bail application, have said the victim faces a threat to her life from Ahuja.

“There could be a threat to the victim’s life from Ahuja,” said Tajne.

Tajne has mentioned that Ahuja comes from a rich, influential family and there are chances that he may threaten witnesses or tamper with evidence. He also told the court that the police have enough evidence to nail Ahuja.

The court rejected the application, saying prima facie there is evidence against Ahuja.

His advocate Shrikant Shivade said, “We will certainly appeal the order.”

The police recently filed a 109-page chargesheet against him, which includes statements of witnesses, forensic and other documentary evidence, and statements of 12 witnesses and the victim, recorded before the magistrate.
