Shiv Sainiks on Saturday staged demonstrations outside a theatre in Varanasi screening the film Anara based on the life of former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta, who was linked to an alleged sex scandal.

About 30 to 35 Shiv Sainiks led by the district unit chief Gulshan Kapur gathered at the Sajan theatre and tried to disrupt the screening of the film by shouting slogans against its lead actress and the former Miss Jammu for the alleged indecent contents of the movie.

The protesters burnt posters of the film and the effigy of the heroine and threatened the theatre owner with dire consequences if the screening of the controversial film was not not stopped.

Additional policemen have been deployed at the theatre in view of the protest, police said.
