Six Shiv Sena activists entered the main complex of the Taj Mahal on Thursday in an attempt to perform Hindu religious rituals. Tight security arrangements by CISF and ASI officials, however, foiled the bid.

Senior ASI official Munajjar Ali told HT, “The Sena activists entered the main complex along with other tourists at 4 pm As we were aware of their plans, they were under constant watch and returned without doing anything.” But the Sena activists, who argue the Taj was built on the site of a Shiva temple, claimed they performed aarti and puja.

The Sena activists had made a similar attempt on Monday but then too the police had prevented them from entering the premises.
