SHO says no, SSP says go!

india Updated: Aug 19, 2006 00:14 IST

THE STATION House Officer was given marching orders after he refused to buckle under SP activists’ pressure on Thursday to let go an eve-teaser from the lock-up.

The activists led by party’s city president Mujibur-rehman ‘Babloo’ raided the Saadatganj police station on Thursday night to get the eve-teaser freed. But, Station House Officer (SHO) JK Singh resisted and prevailed. However, superintendent of police (SSP) GK Goswami shifted him to Malihabad on Friday allegedly at the behest of Babloo. However, Babloo was not satisfied with SHO’s transfer only. He reportedly requested senior party leaders to get CO Chowk Rajesh Sahni shifted to other districts.

Meanwhile, a joint team of ADM (West) and the SP (West) has been handed over a probe into the matter.

Sequence of event began with the arrest of a youth—-Malik Mirza of Samrahi Road, Saadatganj on Friday. Mirza was caught following an FIR lodged by a KGMU employee Jitendra Kumar Rastogi of the same locality on August 15.

Rastogi had stated in his complaint that Mirza, who runs a business of embroidery, had made life of his daughter hell for past few weeks. Rastogii’s daughter, who is a medical representative, had told her father that Mirza was following her regularly and passes lewd remarks at her.

She had further complained that he was also harassing her by making blank calls on her mobile and sending obscene SMSes. Taking strong stance on the complaint, the cops caught Mirza and threw him in the lock-up. It was hardly half-an-hour after the arrest of Mirza that local Samajwadi Party activists started gathering at the police station and forcing the cops for release of the accused. Since SHO JK Singh ignored pressures from local leaders, the latter called up their city president Babloo.

Babloo, accompanied by over a dozen goons, stormed into the police station and started hurling expletives at the SHO. While Babloo was engaged in a verbal duel with the SHO, his goons reached at the lock-up. They got Mirza freed when SHO JK Singh intervened and asked the policemen to chase the goons away. Mirza was thrown behind the bars again.

Hearing about the incident, SP (West) DK Rai, ADM (West) and COs from Bazar Khala and Chowk, Navrang Singh and Rajesh Sahni, respectively too arrived at the scene.

Since these officials did not give any assurance to the SP agitators Babloo reached straight to SSP Goswami and asked him to remove the SHO immediately.

And, SHO Singh was transferred to Malihabad police station in the early morning.

When asked by HT Lucknow Live about the transfer, SSP Goswami replied, “It was a routine transfer and nothing to do with the Thursday night incident”. He further said he was waiting for the report in the probe being done by senior officials to initiate adequate action against the erring persons.
