SHORT TAKES | Woman raped, pushed into well

A WOMAN was raped in Sourahar village near Chhattarpur and later pushed into a well by the accused on late Saturday. Accused Darbari Yadav asked the woman to accompany him saying her nephew was sick and admitted in the hospital. He took her to village Sourahar, raped her and later pushed her into a well.

A WOMAN was raped in Sourahar village near Chhattarpur and later pushed into a well by the accused on late Saturday.  Accused Darbari Yadav asked the woman to accompany him saying her nephew was sick and admitted in the hospital. He took her to village Sourahar, raped her and later pushed her into a well.

He also threw huge stones into the well. The woman, however stayed quiet and spent the night inside the well somehow. In the morning, villagers working nearby heard her cries and pulled her out. She was admitted to the district hospital. A hunt had been launched for the accused. HTC

Man kills wife, son

A MAN brutally murdered his wife and son and later made an attempt to commit suicide at Boukana village in Chhatarpur district on Sunday. He was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. Suspecting wife’s character, the accused, Sukh Singh, assaulted and killed her and their one-year-old son with a sharp weapon. 

Later, he tried to end his life, too. He was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition. The bodies were handed over to relatives after post mortem. The accused is undergoing treatment at Bada Malhera Hospital. (Agencies)

Fire at oil godown

A BIG fire broke out at a soya edible oil godown situated at the residential area at Ukhari late last night, triggering panic in nearby localities. The houses near the mishap site were evacuated.  Over a dozen fire tenders, including defence establishments Gun Carriage Factory (GCF), Ordnance Factory Khamaria (OFK), Vehicle Factory Jabalpur (VFJ) and Grey Iron Foundry (GIF) fought the blaze and were able to douse it in the early hours of Monday.

Jabalpur Municipal Corporation Fire Brigade Department spokesman said the owner of the go-down Pankaj Choudha was shaken by the incident, and they have yet to work out the loss caused by the fire. HTC
