ACTOR-TURNED-BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha will meet Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and senior bureaucrats on Saturday in connection with his ambitious film city project.
Sinha is coming with a team of experts to explore possibilities of acquiring land, said sources. The Project Implementation and Clearance Board (PICB) of Madhya Pradesh had discussed the proposal at its August 22 meeting. The proposed film city is likely to have the most-advanced TV and film studios, an acting school and a hostel.
Sinha had earlier explored the possibility of such a venture in his home state – Bihar — but Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s response disappointed him. The Bihar Industrial Promotion Board cold-shouldered the proposal.
A disappointed Shatrughan Sinha then wrote to the MP government, seeking at least 200-acre land for his project. Size of the investment will be known only after his discussion with the Chief Minister.
According to the sources, the Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam, an arm of the Madhya Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (MPSIDC), has been assigned the task of identifying land for the proposed film city.
“We have identified land in some localities in Bhopal and its adjoining areas in Chiklod, Neelbad, Shahganj, Kerwa dam area, Dewatia (Raisen district) and Delawari (near forest range),” a senior official of the Kendra told Hindustan Times.
Bhopal with its picturesque landscape and connectivity with the rest of the country is considered a good location for a film city. A host of films have been shot in the City.
In the recent past filmmakers have shot many films in MP, prominent among them being ‘Ashoka’ (Shah Rukh Khan and Karishma Kapoor) ‘Shool’ (starring Manoj Vajpayee), Tarkeeb (starring Tabu and Nana Patekar), In Custody (starting Shashi Kapoor).
