Shotgun withdraws his five star hotel project

Shatrughan Sinha has withdrawn his proposal to build a five-star hotel in Patna due to certain controversies.

In a setback to the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government's move to mobilise private investment into the state, filmstar-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has withdrawn his proposal to build a five-star hotel in Patna due to certain controversies arising out of some of the government decisions.

In a letter faxed to Director (Technical), Industry department, Sinha said "I wish to withdraw my five-star hotel project and keep my integrity and image intact".

State Industrial Development Commissioner Vijay Raghava told PTI that Sinha had earlier expressed his desire to set up a five-star hotel for which he had sought a plot of land along the busy Bailey Road.

Sinha also wanted to build a film city on 100 acres of land for which the presentations are scheduled before the state inustry promotion board on Monday, he said.

In his letter, a copy of which was also sent to Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Sinha had pointed out that he did not want to be "seen as taking any personal favour from the governmment. In the light of the controversies, I wish to withdraw my five-star hotel project and keep my integrity and image intact", he said.

Sinha's move comes against the backdrop of the controversy over allotment of plots to noted filmmaker Prakash Jha by the state government in different cities in the state allegedly at throwaway prices.

Bihar PCC spokesman Premchandra Mishra has filed a PIL in the Patna High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in allotment of plots to Jha which caused huge revenue losses to the government.

When contacted, Sinha refused to elaborate on the reasons behind his decision to withdraw the hotel project.
