Sport Wife on sale: This one is not recent but merits a mention. Six years ago, UK internet entrepreneur Kay Hammond put herself up on an online auction, saying she was too busy to find a mate the regular way. One Ben Webb bid $250,000 for her, Kay accepted and then just couldn’t track down her groom. The only man found with his name had heard nothing about the auction and was penniless to boot.
