Baby photos: Also this week, it was reported that People magazine is willing to pay upto $6 million for exclusive pictures of the twins that Jennifer Lopez is expecting. But with plenty of divas pregnant in Hollywood, from Halle Berry to Nicole Kidman, many baby photos are still out on the auction block.

Vanity plates: Last Saturday, a license plate with nothing but the number “1” on it was auctioned off for a record $14 million in the UAE. Successful bidder Mr Khouri’s simple explanation for dishing out top dollars for a piece a plastic: “I bought it because I want to be the best in the world."

VIP dialups: Speaking of numbers, top phone honours go to 6666666, which fetched $2.75 million at a Qatari charity auction. Taking second place is 88888888, which went for $300,000 in eastern China. And last July, it was a Ludhiana lad who shelled out a cool $39,000 for mobile number 9780000000.

Sport deals: In the latest in a series of rewarding moves, French footballer Nicolas Anelka has recntly left the Bolton Wanderers for Chelsea. This brings his accumulated transfer fees to $169 million, making the IPL monies look like small change. Not bad for someone nicknamed the Sulk.

Sport Wife on sale: This one is not recent but merits a mention. Six years ago, UK internet entrepreneur Kay Hammond put herself up on an online auction, saying she was too busy to find a mate the regular way. One Ben Webb bid $250,000 for her, Kay accepted and then just couldn’t track down her groom. The only man found with his name had heard nothing about the auction and was penniless to boot.
