Live performances by some of India's leading singers and fashion shows by two of the country's top designers will be the highlights of the annual Bollywood Music and Fashion Awards show slated for Nov 17 in New Jersey.
Bollywood playback singers Kumar Sanu, Alisha Chinai, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sukhbir are to serenade the audience at the 5,000-capacity Trump Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City.
Manish Malhotra, a designer who works with Bollywood; Suneet Verma, premier couture designer and Atlanta-based Sushma Patel will showcase their latest collections. Twenty top models from India and the US who will grace the catwalk include Aryan Vaid, the first Indian model to win the Mister International award in 2000.
This is the first time, the organisers -- Bollywood Group, a New York-based entertainment events company -- have combined the annual music and fashion awards shows, started in 1999.
"Fashion and music have always been intertwined, and by combining the music and fashion awards into one glamorous and entertaining evening, we are able to celebrate the symbiotic relationship that the two have shared in Indian cinema," Kamal Dandona, chairman of the group, told IANS.
For music, awards categories include best music director, best male singer, best female singer and best music video.
The five music directors short-listed are AR Rahman (Guru), Himesh Reshammiya (Aap Ka Suroor), Shankar Ehsaan Loy (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna), Pritam (Dhoom 2) and Jatin Lalit (Fanaa).
Male singers vying for the award are Himesh Reshammiya, Sonu Nigam, Sukhvinder Singh, Sukhbir and Shaan.
In the female category, short-listed singers are Alisha Chinai, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal and Chinmayee Keerthi, the maiya maiya girl from Guru.
Though the event is Bollywood-oriented, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Caribbean, American and other international stars will feature too.
The organisers claim that more than 270 million people in over 90 countries will view the show.
The Bollywood group also holds the Bollywood Movie awards every year. At earlier events, it has played host to American celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Richard Gere, Sharon Stone and Tyra Banks.
