THE HUNT for the BSNL official’s seven-year-old son ended on Monday with the find of his body. Two persons have been arrested in this connection. One is BSNL official’s neighbour and the other latter’s kin.
Shubhankar, son of BSNL official had been feared kidnapped since July 31. He was strangled to death by his neighbour who had an old enmity with his father. The killer revealed that he had killed the boy that day and dumped the body in a canal in Mohanlalganj.
The accused and his brother-in-law were demanding a ransom of Rs 7 lakh and were trapped while making the ransom call on Sunday. The body was recovered after the arrest of the duo.
Accountant with BSNL office at Lalbagh, Shiv Nayak Tiwari’s son Shubhankar went missing mysteriously suddenly since 5 pm on July 31. Tiwari’s daughter had received an anonymous call that evening only and the caller had said that the boy was kidnapped. The cops were groping in dark as no such call was made at Tiwari’s home later.
However, the cops put Tiwari’s phone on surveillance and started keeping watch on activities of the local youths. Tiwari received four calls during last week and the caller demanded Rs 7 lakh against the release of the boy.
It was on Saturday that Tiwari suspected that the caller was none other but his neighbour Rajesh Shukla. He informed the police about his suspicion.
The cops too had zeroed in on the number, which were being used for making the calls. The cops had traced the numbers of different PCOs in Talkatora area.
The cops soon trapped Rajesh and husband of his wife’s sister from latter’s house at Jalalpur locality in the same area. Rajesh was staying with his in-laws for past two days to make the ransom calls. The police picked up Rajesh and his relative Pappu for interrogation.
In the course of interrogation, Rajesh said that he had a tiff with Tiwari about two years back after the latter had leveled allegation on Rajesh for stealing electricity cables. The duo had engaged in altercation then. Rajesh owed enmity with Tiwari since then.
Rajesh got chance to settle scores with Tiwari when he found latter’s son Shubhankar plucking guavas in an orchard near his house. Rajesh called up the boy inside his house on pretext of a work. No sooner the boy entered his house Rajesh pounced upon the boy and strangled him to death. Rajesh later packed the body in a gunny bag and carried it on a bicycle to dump it later in a canal on same evening in Mohanlalganj.
