Shutdown in Sopore after encounter
A complete shutdown was observed in north Kashmir's Sopore town on Thursday, following a two-day long gun battle, that left six militants dead and two soldiers injured.
A complete shutdown was observed in north Kashmir's Sopore town on Thursday, following a two-day long gun battle, that left six militants dead and two soldiers injured.
Shops, schools and business establishments were closed on third consecutive day on Thursday.
A major encounter that begun on Tuesday, continued till Wednesday afternoon, in which a local militant was shot dead. Three houses and a cow shed were also damaged in the exchange of fire.
Following the encounter, separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah was detained when he was on his way to Sopore from Srinagar. Shah said he wanted to express solidarity with the family who lost their son in the gun battle.
Meanwhile, the police also detained JKLF (H) chairman Javed Mir.
