A sub-inspector of the Gurgaon police was transferred to police lines, considered as a punishment posting, for misbehaving with a three-wheeler driver. The auto union called for a strike after SI Bhim Singh allegedly misbehaved and slapped an auto driver.
Nearly 200 protesters reached the police commissioner's office on Friday and demanded action against the policeman. “An inquiry has been ordered. We are trying to bring in discipline among drivers and also among our personnel,” Gurgaon police commissioner SS Deswal said.
Following several complaints of auto drivers fleecing commuters, the police have decided to form a committee to decide the minimum and maximum fare to be charged by the shared autos. With the number of passengers being restricted to eight, drivers have increased the fare and are charging double the amount.
