india Updated: Mar 30, 2009 01:17 IST

A top Congress leader in Sikkim and two party workers were injured today after a group of people pelted their cars with stones near Jorthang Bazar in South district of Sikkim.

The police said Kunga Nima Lepcha and two others were injured when hails of stones rained on their cars on the way to Soreng in West district of Sikkim to attend an election meeting. The cars were badly damaged, police said.

"Four of the six attackers have been arrested from several places in Jorethang Bazar on the charge of attacking," Superintendent of Police, South Sikkim, G K Verma said. Lepcha, General Secretary of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee and the partys candidate from Shyari(BL) assembly seat, lodged a complaint at Jorethang police station alleging that the attackers wanted to kill him.

Verma said they have launched a manhunt to arrest the two other suspects.
