Another Chinese worker was also critically injured in the accident and has been admitted to the Changi General Hospital, reported the Today newspaper. His condition is still serious.

The two workers were working for the Wee Hur Construction firm.

The accident happened just two months after the Singapore government introduced safety inspection at construction sites on weekends and after office hours.

A survey has revealed that 40 percent of all fatal accidents in Singapore last year occurred during this period.

Under the Workplace Safety and Health Act, negligent employers can be fined, or even jailed for up to two years.
