Singla slaps returning officer, case registered

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sundaram Krishna has informed that an FIR has been registered against Punjab Finance Minister Surinder Singh Singla who allegedly slapped a returning officer in polling booth number 26 of Majitha constituency.

As per reports the incident occurred after an old lady who wanted to cast in Chandigarh franchise reportedly requested the returning officer to help her stating that she had a poor eye-site.

In the meantime, Singla emerged and slapped the officer, Sundaram said that returning officer has also been removed and replaced by some other officials immediately. In Patti constituency 60 per cent votes have been cast by afternoon.   

Local SDM who is the returning officer said that the official SS Dhaliwal said that he has visited the spot and inquiry was being conducted about the incident. Another official has been appointed to continue the polling process.     

From Majitha assembly Vikram Singh Majithia brother-in-law of Sukhbir Singh Badal is in fray. Meanwhile cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has demanded a thorough and independent probe into the incident.
