Sirsa college students burn effigies of CM, DC

The agitating students of girls’ wing of Government National College boycotted classes and burnt effigies of chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and others at the college gate on Saturday. They raised slogans against the college administration and DC and demanded strict action against them for Thursday’s lathicharge on students.

Suman, a student, said, “Our college building is in a very bad condition. It may come down any time. We have made several requests to the authorities concerned for basic amenities but no one is ready to listen to us. On Thursday, girl students who had gathered outside the DC’s residence were lathicharged. Is it democracy?”

The students also burnt effigies of member of Parliament Charanjeet Singh Channi, deputy commissioner Anshaj Singh, SHO Suresh Pal and principal Suman Gulab. They also demanded release of the ABVP leaders who have were arrested on Thursday.

The protesters claimed that at least five girls were injured in the police action on Thursday but no official came to enquire about their well being. “Now, the college administration is threatening us to keep mum on this issue. But we will not keep quiet and will take the issue to the state level,” they added.

The students claimed that the government has sent `17.5 crore for construction of a new building for girls but not a single brick has been laid till date
