The Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court to reinvestigate some post-Godhra riot cases has said it is studying the court order granting anticipatory bail to Gujarat Minister Maya Kodnani before taking further action in the matter.
"We have received the copy of the court order on Saturday and are studying it thoroughly. Only after doing that we will be able to finalise course of further action," SIT chief RK Raghavan, who is on a five-day visit in Ahmedabad, told PTI on Friday.
Kodnani, Minister of State for Higher Education in the Gujarat government, and former VHP leader Jaideep Patel were granted anticipatory bail by the sessions court in Ahmedabad on last Thursday after the SIT had declared them absconders in connection with the Naroda Gam and Naroda Patia riot cases.
Over 95 people of the minority community were killed by a mob in riots there following the Godhra train burning incident in February 2002.
Meanwhile, Kodnani, who had remained untraceable for five days and declared absconder by SIT last Monday resurfaced on Friday, one day after getting anticipatory bail.
