Situation peaceful for third straight day in Hyderabad

india Updated: Apr 04, 2010 15:55 IST

Situation in riot-hit areas of Old City here was improving, with no reports of untoward incident today during the curfew relaxation period for the third consecutive day.

Curfew was relaxed for three hours in all the 25 police station limits in two phases.

While curfew was relaxed between 7 am to 10 am in eight police station limits under West, Central and East zones, it
was relaxed from 10 am to 1 pm in 17 other police stations of South Zone in Old City, enabling people to come out and buy essential items.

A senior IPS officer, supervising the trouble-torn localities of South Zone, said the situation was peaceful
since the last three days.

"We are keeping a close watch and depending upon the developments in the period, curfew will be further relaxed
from tomorrow," the officer said.

Considering the improvement in the situation of the curfew affected areas, the City Police is likely to lift the
day-time curfew from tomorrow.

However, a final decision would be taken later in the day after a high-level meeting of police officials.

Violent clashes between two communities had led to the imposition of indefinite curfew in 17 police stations of South
Zone from March 29 and eight police stations of West, Central and East zones from March 30.
