Six debt-ridden farmers in Vidarbha region of Maharshtra have committed suicide since Monday, official sources said on Tuesday.
While three farmers belonged to Yavatmal district, two hailed from Akola and one from the bordering district of Buldana.
One Vitthal Damodhar Akolnkar (47) from Ralegaon in Yavatmal ended his life by consuming poison, as he was unable to repay a loan of Rs 75,000. One Madhukar Fakru Kulunke (45) from Telgtakli of Kelapur taluka and Sandeep Dynoba Lasane (28) of Baulgaon in Yavatmal also consumed pesticide, the sources added.
A 35-year old farmer Prabhu Ramchandra Thakre from Parsoda (Wardha), who had consumed some poisonous substance, was taken to Wani Civil Hospital but died. One Sonu Puroshottam Hingane hanged himself to death in Akola.
In Buldana, a 60-year old farmer Ramdas Bhauji Rahate was in distress over crop failure and mounting debt and ended his life by hanging, the sources said.
